It's playoff time in the Hockey East, as the women's conference tournament gets underway on Wednesday. In one of the first 'first four' matchups, 10th seed Holy Cross (7-23-3, 4-20-3 Hockey East) visits seventh seed Boston University (14-17-3, 12-14-1 Hockey East) at Walter Brown Arena renewing the 'Turnpike Trophy' rivalry, which represents both schools being located adjacent to Interstate 90, known in the state as the Massachusetts Turnpike. For both teams, this is their second year in a row playing in the opening round. Both teams were one and done in the tournament last year - BU was a seven seed again and got knocked off in overtime by 10th seed Merrimack, while ninth seed Holy Cross lost 6-3 to eighth seed New Hampshire.

During the regular season, these teams met three times. The first matchup was back on Dec. 8 in Boston. BU came away with a 2-1 win, with sophomore Luisa Welke scoring the game-winning goal on the power play with just under five minutes to go in regulation.
The two teams then played a home-and-home less than a month ago, during the final weekend of January. The road team won both of those games, with Holy Cross grabbing a 2-1 win and then BU coming back with a 3-2 win the next night.
